Your first appointment
A full case history is taken on your first appointment, this involves a physical
examination and talking about your medical history.
For the physical examination,
you will be asked to remove your outer clothing and to carry out simple
movements to assess your spine and posture. If you are uncomfortable with
this, please attend wearing very loose clothing.
For the medical history,
you will need to provide the names of any medication you are currently
taking.
The first appointment usually takes an hour.
Further appointments
Osteopaths use their use their hands to treat their patients. Treatments
include stretching the muscles and connective tissue, rhythmic joint movements
and manipulation. Osteopaths aim to restore function and movement, and
to alleviate pain. A treatment may take up to 45 minutes, depending on
the your needs.
